Way back in 2015, one of the biggest rap beefs going was Young Thug and Lil Wayne. When Thug flipped the long-delayed Carter V for his own album, Barter 6, a feud between the two began, eventually culminating in Lil Wayne's tour bus getting riddled with bullets. Young Thug and Birdman were both mentioned in an indictment related to the incident, but the one who ended up getting charged was Jimmy Winfrey, aka PeeWee Roscoe.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Winfrey, who was originally sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting, has had his original conviction overturned. Winfrey was apparently pushed into pleading guilty by the judge in the case, who threatened him with a harsher sentence if the case went to trial.
According to Spin, the judge had severely overstepped her bounds. "This opportunity is going away," she told Winfrey during the trial. "Go to trial and you get convicted there’s not going to be any of me being concerned about when you parole out. Whatever they say you’re guilty of I’m going to sentence you, and I’m not going to worry about when you get out of jail because it’s not my concern."
As such, Winfrey will be given a second chance to try his case and try to receive a better sentence. Despite his original guilty plea, none of that will affect his new court case, though he will remain in custody until the new trial concludes.
At the time of the shooting, Winfrey was working as Birdman's tour manager. He previously told police that he did the shooting in order to get higher gang status.
