Kendrick Lamar brought out a crowd of doppelgängers at Primavera Sound.

Kendrick Lamar used a group of look-alikes for his performance at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona over the weekend. Many on social media noted that the show was similar to Eminem's iconic performance at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, in which he brought out dozens of his own look-alikes at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall while performing “The Real Slim Shady.”

The doppelgängers arrived while Lamar and Baby Keem performed their Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers song “Savior.” On the stage, the clones rocked white T-shirts, black overalls, and glasses.

If the move was a reference to Eminem, it wouldn't be Lamar's first time praising the legendary rapper. Speaking with GQ back in 2016, Lamar credited Eminem with greatly influencing his own artistry. “I got my clarity just studying Eminem when I was a kid. How I got in the studio was all just curiosity. I had a love for the music, but it was curiosity," he said at the time. “The day I heard The Marshall Mathers LP, I was just like, How does that work? What is he doing? How is he putting his words together like that? What’s the track under that? An ad-lib? What is that? And then, Why don’t you go in the studio and see? So I do that. Then it became, How are his words cutting through the beat like that? What is he doing that I’m not doing, now that I’m into it? His time is impeccable. When he wants to fall off the beat, it’s impeccable. These are things that, through experience and time, I had to learn.”

Even on Lamar's Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers cut, “We Cry Together,” there appears to be a notable connection to Eminem’s “Kim.” Check out Lamar's recent performance at Primavera Sound Festival here.
