Today, hip-hop has lost one on its most respected and innovative minds. Reggie Ossé, known to his fans as Combat Jack, has passed away. The lawyer turned The Combat Jack Show podcaster announced his battle with colon cancer in October, and today, Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg broke the tragic news via Twitter. "Hip Hop has lost one of its most important historians and voices... we had serious ups and downs but I was so happy we had made things good... Rest In Peace to my friend Combat Jack...." writes Rosenberg. Hot 97 later confirmed the news.
Combat Jack had dedicated his life to hip-hop, and if anybody ever listened to his podcast, they'd know he was a bright and passionate mind. He could talk about albums for hours, and hosted guests from Jadakiss, Just Blaze, The Game, Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9", Ice Cube, Jordan Peele, Jeezy, Zaytoven, Cardi B, Ty Dolla $ign and more. I had the pleasure of meeting Jack and seeing him do a talk about his come up, and he was a kind and knowledgeable man. Throughout the course of his career, Jack had graduated from Cornell University, represented Jay-Z, Dame Dash, and Roc-A-Fella Records, and met countless artists.
The Brooklyn resident will be remembered by his four children. He was 48 years old. Rest In Peace, Combat.
