Is nothing sacred? In today's world, not a single innuendo can go undiscovered. Least of all, one involving the word "Poon." Today Show host Al Roker learned a hard, and possibly family-dinner-ruining lesson today, after decided to share his cherished Thanksgiving Recipe: "Sweet Potato Poon" on national television. The segment, which found each dish sampled by a panel of guest judges, found Roker breaking down the foundational elements of his signature "Poon."
They are, as follows: Sweet potatoes, flour, a stick of butter, pineapple, all-spice brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and marshmallows. If the taste test is to be believed, the "poon" is delectable, if a little on the sweet side.
After being questioned, albeit innocently, about the name, Roker explains it has simply been called "Poon" forever. It didn't take long for the mysterious dish to start trending, and many had a laugh at the adult-friendly euphemism. Throw Al Roker a bone. "Sweet Potato Poon" has been passed down for generations. And besides, the name does possess a certain sense of charm, does it not?
