Let's put a smile on that face.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has several spirited performances in her catalog, but 2008's The Dark Knight will always be one of her most memorable. Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes as Rachel, Batman and Harvey Dent's shared love interest. Although Rachel was in love with Bruce Wayne, her knowledge of his crime-fighting obsession forced her to back away from the vigilante. She was ultimately killed off by Heath Ledger's Joker.

Gyllenhaal recently stopped by Watch What Happens Live, and she fondly remembered working with Ledger on the film. “I remember coming to work and seeing him, that scene where the Joker throws me off a roof, and seeing him come in and start to do what he was doing, which was the first time I saw it,” she explained. “I still think about this sometimes. It’s so hard to be good in a huge movie like that. That’s not about the acting, really. It’s so much easier to be good in a little tiny movie where it’s all about you.”

“To be amazing like the way Heath was in a movie that’s got explosions and huge stunt scenes and big sets it's a whole other thing," she continued. "I don’t know if anyone’s ever, ever, done that as well as he did in The Dark Knight.”
