Can Spidey really trust the ol' fishbowl-head?

While Avengers fever is currently sweeping the nation, Spider-Man loyalists are patiently waiting for July 2nd. With early trailers indicating the film's plot, which finds Tom Holland's titular hero exploring European soil in a vain attempt to sow his high school oats. Yet it doesn't take long before he's thrust into catastrophe, as the Elementals proceed to lay siege to the city. The last shot of the trailer finds Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio coming to the rescue, indicating that his relationship with Spidey will be cordial - at least in the early stages.

Now, a new feature from Entertainment Weekly has shed further details on the plotline, revealing a closer look at Mysterio and Spider-Man's dynamic. Speaking with EW, director Jon Watts explains a little bit about the iconic "villain's" role. " “If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle,” explains Watts, a deviation from the relationship long-established across decades of comic-book lore. The article also features a screenshot from the film, which finds Spider-Man and Mysterio exchanging a handshake

Yet Jake Gyllenhaal stands among the greatest of today's actors, and it's exciting to see him donning the signature costume. Should their friendship take a dark turn, it's likely that we'll get to see Jake flex some of his chops. Are you looking forward to catching this one?
